Be Still... Even Through Cancer
"The Spring of 2017 was supposed to be dedicated to celebrating all the "lasts" of my first-born child's high school senior year. Little did I know that as he was about to finish one exciting journey of his life, I was about to embark on my own journey.
The journey of fighting breast cancer.
The diagnosis was devastating. Here I was… anticipating celebrations with my son, and now I faced a mountain of testing, doctor's visits, treatments, surgery…and uncertainty.
A cancer diagnosis is an entity in and of itself. You spend your days fighting.
You fight to orchestrate appointments.
You fight people's well-meaning but often hurtful words.
You fight to put a smile on your face for your family.
You fight to keep normalcy in your home for your children and your spouse.
You fight side effects.
You fight for your life as it is being completely disrupted.
You fight to feel normal.
You fight fear.
You fight to survive.
You fight...
I was swirling in a world of confusion and doubt, yet one thing was constant. The Lord's still, small voice kept whispering the same words repeatedly: Psalm 46:10. "Be still and know that I am God."
I had friends, family members, acquaintances, and even strangers send me that verse in one form or fashion…from cards to wall hangings, to jewelry…through texts, e-mails, and even phone calls. The Lord’s words could not have been clearer.
God not only walked with me through my entire journey, but He also held me. He cared enough about my situation to continually remind me that He would take care of me, and I only needed to ”be still”.
If you’re going through a trial…whatever it may be…take a pause. Listen for God’s still, small voice amid the darkness. “Be still” and allow Him to carry you through to the other side."
